Savings at Aldi versus Wal-mart

Advertising can be confusing. When Wal-mart ads continually tell us "Low prices, Everyday", that message can become embedded in our thinking. However, Wal-mart is no longer the lowest price provider on many grocery items. The chain named Aldi is lower on many items and the overall cost is usually much lower on the things that I buy.

Take for example, Chex Mix. The Chex Mix from Wal-Mart is priced at $2.50. The Aldi-brand equivalent is only $1.79. That is 28% lower than Wal-mart for the same amount (15 ounce bag). If you could save 28% on all of your food, how much would you save over a year's time? A family of four can get by fairly easily on $650 a month or $7,800 a year in groceries. A savings of 28% would be $2,184 a year. Would you like Aldi to send you a check for $2,000 each year just for shopping there? I would love it.
